Imphal: Mizoram Police locked up 312 suspects and pulled Rs 414.66 crore worth of narcotics off the streets in the first half of the year. Officers filed 219 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act between January and June. Fifty-seven foreign nationals were among those caught in the sweep.

Methamphetamine dominated the haul. Police seized over 315 kilograms of the drug, worth more than Rs 252 crore, across 38 separate busts. Heroin followed, with 34.9 kilograms recovered in 156 different incidents. The state also recorded significant seizures of crystal meth, morphine, opium, ganja, codeine, and alprazolam.

The department linked these statistics to a push to break trafficking networks. "The figures reflected the force's sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking while also indicating the scale of the narcotics menace in the state," officials said. Police now want help from Village Councils, the Young Mizo Association, and local citizens to track down remaining dealers.
