Imphal: A new bus route opens October 1. The service connects Sairang, Mizoram, with Churachandpur, Manipur. Mizoram Transport Minister Vanlalhlana kicked off the project on Tuesday. Two 21-seater buses will handle the 360-km route. The trip takes about 12 hours. A private operator runs the line.

Travelers pay Rs 2,500 per seat. Tickets are sold via the VK Tawna Bus Service mobile app. The route serves the Kuki-Zo-majority district in Manipur. Sairang sits 22 km from Aizawl. This move addresses travel gaps left by ethnic clashes that began in May 2023.

The fighting between Meitei and Kuki communities has killed at least 306 people. Another 49 remain missing. Thousands fled the violence, seeking safety in Mizoram. Vanlalhlana stated, "Mizoram is a central home for its kindred communities." He believes the route will foster unity among Zo tribes.

H Ginzalala, a ZPM MLA and adviser to the Chief Minister, highlighted the need for better transport. He claimed the crisis deepened the bond between Mizos and the Kuki-Zo population. Ginzalala also warned passengers to obey the law during their travels. Officials hope the service makes life easier for those caught between the two states.
