Shillong: Meghalaya will pay July 2026 salaries to all former MGNREGA employees within two days. These workers now staff the VB-GRAM-G and VB-REGLMS programmes. The State Rural Employment Society confirmed the move on August 4. The Ministry of Rural Development provided the necessary administrative sanctions.
Transitions between programs caused payment snags. Staff faced delays with salaries, travel allowances, and office expenses. Workers waiting on pay for April through June or May through June 2026 remain on the hook. They will get their cash once the Ministry of Rural Development releases the remaining administrative funds. The state government stays in contact with federal officials to speed up the process.
The state has a backup plan. If central sanctions stall, Meghalaya will use its own money to bridge the gap. Officials want to protect staff from financial hits. SRES noted this is not the first time. "A similar arrangement had been made in 2025," when the state fronted pay for one to two months while waiting on central cash.
Records show pay is current through March 2026. Some districts already settled accounts through April 2026. Agencies are pushing to clear all lingering dues as soon as possible.
