Shillong: The Meghalaya government is trying again. It will float a fresh tender for shops at the Polo Market in Shillong. This comes after three failed attempts to find tenants for the space. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman opened the building one year ago. It has sat empty ever since.
High costs scared off bidders. Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar admitted the government set the bar too high. “There was no response since the rent seems to be high,” Dhar said. Officials hope lower rates will finally get the building running.
The government also provided an update on the Business cum Tourism Centre. Construction is almost finished. Officials plan to invite tenders for the site soon.
