Shillong: Eighty radiologists and medical residents gathered at Vivanta Shillong on Saturday for the first state conference held by the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association. The event focused on pushing medical imaging technology forward across the region.
Dr. Sam Pamei earned the Lifetime Achievement Award for his career in Meghalaya. Bethany Hospital resident Dr. Kartick Martiwar took home the Dr. Akash Hadique Memorial Award. The Bethany team also grabbed the top spot in the radiology quiz, beating out the squad from NEIGRIHMS.
Diagnostic tools are expanding fast. NEIGRIHMS now offers cardiac MRI, a rare service in the Northeast. Dr. Humsheer S Sethi pointed out that local doctors maintain high standards for oncology patients even without local PET/CT access. "While Shillong currently lacks a PET/CT facility, local expertise is being maintained by reviewing scans of patients who seek imaging outside the state," Sethi said.
Other winners included Dr. Wanboklang Nongsiej, who took the top prize in the ePoster competition. Dr. Nikita Bhimjiyani and Dr. E Khonglah rounded out the podium. Experts from Guwahati hospitals judged the sessions, which also covered minimally invasive abdominal procedures meant to help patients recover faster.
