Shillong: Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Alexander Laloo Hek met with Union Minister Jitendra Singh in New Delhi on Monday to discuss the expansion of Science, Technology, and Innovation hubs throughout the Northeast. These hubs, implemented by the Department of Science and Technology, aim to support Scheduled Tribe communities by providing science-based interventions and fostering sustainable livelihoods.

Minister Singh emphasized the government's commitment to delivering technological solutions to remote and underserved tribal regions. He noted that the initiative focuses on improving grassroots entrepreneurship, skill development, and overall quality of life. The Department of Science and Technology has already established 53 of these centers across the country to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and community needs.

During the discussion, Hek highlighted the potential for scaling these initiatives within Meghalaya and the broader northeastern region. He pointed to the need for better coordination between central scientific institutions and local stakeholders to improve the reach of these programs. As a gesture of ongoing cooperation, Hek invited Minister Singh to visit Meghalaya to review future public welfare and development projects.
