Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma laid the foundation stone for a major road and bridge project in the East Jaintia Hills district on May 28. The initiative, valued at Rs 76.43 crore, aims to enhance regional transportation and stimulate local economic growth.

The project spans 18.64 kilometres, connecting the Shkentalang area of NH-206 to Lumshyrmit. A critical component of the development includes the construction of a bridge over the Myntdu River, which will establish a new link to NH-6 at Kongong.

Addressing the significance of the construction, Sangma noted that the road will reduce travel times and improve accessibility for local residents. He emphasized that the state government is dedicated to building robust infrastructure to better connect isolated communities and foster development across Meghalaya. Local officials expect the project to open new opportunities for trade and improved mobility throughout the region.
