Meghalaya Launches Door-to-Door Voter Roll Verification

Shillong: Meghalaya officials are starting a house-to-house check of electoral rolls today. Booth Level Officers will fan out across every constituency to hand out self-enumeration forms. This drive runs through July 29.

The state is using 2005 records as a baseline. East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal urged residents to get involved and verify their status. He told reporters, “The message and the request to all the electors is to take this exercise very seriously.”

The administration wants to boost participation. They emphasized that the goal is “to include, not exclude.” Officials have deployed 1,021 officers just in East Khasi Hills. They are also working with local headmen to build trust and clear up any confusion.

Citizens turning 18 can sign up using Form 6. You can submit forms online via the Election Commission website. Help is available through designated hotlines. After the survey finishes, the state will publish a draft roll on August 5. Residents then have until September 4 to file claims or lodge objections.
