Meghalaya Election Officials Flag 150,000 Voters as Ineligible

Shillong: Meghalaya election officials flagged 149,656 voters as ineligible during a state-wide roll revision. These individuals fall into the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate, or ASDD, category. This group accounts for 6.37 per cent of the total 2,349,645 registered voters in the state.

Chief Electoral Officer B.D.R. Tiwari provided the breakdown of the flagged data. The list includes 74,851 deceased, 37,914 shifted, 28,826 absent, and 5,899 duplicate entries. Additionally, 2,166 electors refused to turn in their required forms. The office warned: "Election authorities cautioned that electors who fail to submit their verified enumeration forms before the deadline risk being excluded from the draft electoral roll, which is scheduled to be published on August 5."

Authorities have distributed 99.62 per cent of forms across the state. They have digitised 22,78,071 forms, or 96.95 per cent of the total. Yet, 2,24,435 forms still lack geographical mapping. Ri-Bhoi district shows the highest gap with 23.45 per cent unmapped, followed by South West Khasi Hills at 14.53 per cent.

Ten of the 12 districts finished distributing all forms. East Khasi Hills remains the largest district with 632,146 registered voters. Officials urged everyone to hand forms to Booth Level Officers or upload them through the online voter portal before the deadline passes.
