Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has welcomed the official inclusion of the Khasi and Garo languages in the CBSE three-language framework. He described the decision as a significant milestone for inclusive education and a vital step toward protecting the state's indigenous linguistic heritage.
Sangma extended his gratitude to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for his intervention in the matter. According to the Chief Minister, the change will directly benefit local students, simplify operational hurdles for regional schools, and provide necessary support for language teachers.
The CBSE framework requires students to study three languages starting in the sixth grade. By adding Khasi and Garo to this list, the board is formally recognizing the diverse linguistic identities within Meghalaya. Sangma emphasized that the move reflects a broader national commitment to fostering an education system that values cultural variety.
