Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma ordered officials to finish health projects in South Garo Hills on time and with high quality. He inspected Baghmara Civil Hospital on July 9 alongside Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Sampath Kumar and local health department brass. The government is dumping over Rs 11 crore into the facility to make it a reliable hub for local patients.
Construction crews are finishing a new outpatient block. Workers are building an overhead water tank and fixing up staff living quarters. The hospital expansion adds a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a blood bank, and a 50-bed wing for mothers and children. Sangma also confirmed that the Chokpot Community Health Centre will become a First Referral Unit to handle emergencies and maternal care.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government mission during the site visit. He noted, "Ensuring quality healthcare closer to people's homes remains one of the Meghalaya Government's foremost commitments, particularly for the people of the Garo Hills." Officials must now treat the remaining construction as a top priority.
