Shillong: The Meghalaya government pushed the One Time Settlement deadline for vehicle owners to October 31, 2026. This move covers outstanding Motor Vehicle Tax, Passenger and Goods Tax, and fitness fees. The Transport department issued the official notification on August 26. All existing terms for the scheme remain locked in place.
State officials acted after receiving a formal plea from the All Meghalaya Truck Owner, Driver and Welfare Association on August 23. The group met with Transport Commissioner and Secretary Sanjay Goyal to explain their situation. Truckers face tight budgets and low business volumes. They struggled to pay their dues by the previous deadline.
The association initially asked for an extension lasting until December. While the government did not grant the full request, the new October date provides essential breathing room. Association president Wanshwa Nongtdu welcomed the decision. He urged his members to clear their debts and sort out their paperwork promptly. He stated, "He urged truck owners and drivers to utilise the additional time to complete their payments and regularise their documents before the revised October 31 cut-off."
The state created this scheme to help transport operators stay afloat. It provides large waivers on accumulated penalties. Owners should act now to avoid missing the new window.
