Kohima: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has condemned the alleged sexual assault and physical abuse of a 14-year-old girl in Dimapur, Nagaland. Calling the crime unacceptable, Sangma stated that those responsible must face the full force of the law. He urged authorities to conduct a swift, fair investigation and apply the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act to ensure justice for the victim.

The case has sparked widespread outrage across the Northeast, drawing strong condemnation from student organizations and civil society groups. The Naga Students’ Federation described the attack as barbaric and inhumane, while the Angami Students’ Union labeled it an egregious crime that has no place in society. Both groups have demanded an impartial probe and the strictest possible punishment for the accused.

Local police are actively pursuing the case while prioritizing the welfare of the survivor. A significant legal development occurred on May 29, when a district court in Dimapur rejected the primary suspect's anticipatory bail application. Following the court's decision, the individual was taken into police custody.

As legal proceedings continue, public pressure is mounting for transparency and stronger child protection measures. Officials have assured the public that the investigation is being handled according to the law to protect the rights of the minor.
