Shillong: The Meghalaya Cabinet approved an amendment to the Meghalaya Forest Authority Act of 1991 on May 27. This change aims to improve coordination between the State Forest Department and the state's Autonomous District Councils regarding forest management and protection.

Government officials stated that the legislative shift will foster better institutional collaboration. By refining how the Meghalaya Forest Authority functions, the state intends to manage its forest resources more effectively.

The administrative update permits the Authority to direct funds toward daily operational needs. This includes resources for monitoring, collaborative projects, and communication between departments. State leaders described the move as a commitment to sustainable governance and a way to ensure conservation goals remain central to official administrative practices.
