Shillong: The Meghalaya Cabinet just overhauled the promotion ladder for state civil service officers. They updated the 1975 rules to open new doors for career growth. This move clears a path for officials stuck at the Head of Department level for too long.
Officials created four new Special Secretary positions. These roles sit at Level 22 of the pay scale. It is a win for the Meghalaya Civil Service Association, which pushed the state to fix these bottlenecks for years.
The government claims this change keeps staff motivated. Better pay and ranks ensure the bureaucracy keeps running smooth across the state. In a statement on the decision, the Cabinet said the reform reflects "the government's commitment to strengthening the state civil service by ensuring better career progression and motivating officers to continue delivering efficient public service across Meghalaya."
