Guwahati: Margherita Co-District Administration officials celebrated a local karate team for securing top honors at the 2026 International Shotokan Karate Championship in Kolkata. Chief Instructor Anjali Tamang led the crew from the Margherita Circle to victory. They brought home the winning title. The administration recognized Tamang for her work teaching martial arts to students in remote, rural pockets like Ketetong.
Officials handed out Certificates of Appreciation to team members Riman Hazarika, Anjali Sonar, Eli Dama Tamang, Bismita Gogoi, and Gitima Jagat. These fighters earned their stripes on the national stage. Co-District Commissioner K N Chandana Jahnavi, IAS, hosted the event to highlight the group's success. She noted the team showed great spirit.
Jahnavi praised the dedication shown by the students and their instructor. She said, "I hope that their achievements would encourage more children and youth, particularly from rural and remote areas, to take up sports and martial arts." The administration expects this win to push more local kids into the ring for future competitions.
