Guwahati: Margherita officials have taken charge of local LPG distribution to resolve a massive backlog. Exactly 310 consumers currently wait for their fuel. The crisis forced the co-district administration to bypass the regular supply chain after reports of booking cancellations and endless delays surfaced.
The administration initially directed people to the Co-District Commissioner office before shifting the operation to M/S Margherita Gas Supply. Now, officials supervise distribution directly from the Co-District Commissioner office premises. Co-District Commissioner K. N. Chandana Jahnavi has reached out to other regional distributors to secure extra loads and plug the supply gap.
Authorities set a hard deadline. All pending deliveries must finish by October 2. The agency faces threats of severe action if they miss this target. Commissioner Jahnavi visited the agency three times on Thursday to monitor the chaos.
Questions mount regarding the AOD Marketing Department and its failure to supervise the distributor. Reports suggest the agency improperly holds onto consumer LPG books. A local businessman stated, "The entire LPG distribution chain should be subject to an independent and comprehensive inquiry."
Public safety concerns now complicate the situation. The storage godown sits in a dense residential zone near the Margherita Police Station. Traffic jams and pollution plague the area. A pending land dispute involving the Ram Mandir Trust further clouds the agency's status. Officials must now untangle safety risks, ownership claims, and allegations of systemic irregularities.
