Imphal: Manipur Director General of Police Mukesh Singh toured the Tengnoupal district on July 24 to overhaul border security. He arrived with the Additional DGP to demand better results. Singh ordered security forces to ramp up operations against anti-national elements and seize illegal weapons.
The visit comes after the Tamil Sangam, Gorkha Sena, and the Manipuri Muslim Council alerted the Governor on July 15 about severe shortages of medicine and food. These groups blame the ongoing economic blockade for the humanitarian crisis in Moreh. Singh inspected policing at the district office before heading to the border town.
He met with community leaders representing Tamil, Kuki, Nepali, and Meitei Pangal residents. He also sat down with commandants from the 36 Assam Rifles, 3 Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police Commandos. The focus remained on border management and inter-agency synergy. Singh personally checked the surveillance measures at Gate No. 1 and Gate No. 2 of the international crossing.
The DGP pushed for faster criminal investigations and stronger anti-drug drives. During a stop at Kwatha village on his return, Singh met with local Meitei residents and troops from the Central Armed Police Forces. He left with a clear mandate for his officers. As he noted during the visit, there is a distinct "need for sustained operations against anti-national elements" to restore stability in the region.
