Manipur Police Arrest Two Officers and Two Others for Drug Trafficking

Imphal: Manipur Police arrested four men, including two of their own officers, after discovering 6.1 kg of Yaba tablets in Kangpokpi district. The arrests occurred on Thursday when a security team intercepted two vehicles along National Highway 2.

Those taken into custody include Md. Zamir Khan, 45, Samim, 36, police constable Md. Zuma Khan, 32, and head constable Md. Hafizuddin, 42. Authorities also seized the two vehicles involved in the incident, a Winger and a Nissan Magnite, during the operation. According to the Manipur Police, they "arrested 04 occupants along with contraband WY tablets" during the traffic check.

These arrests were part of a broader series of security operations across the state. In separate actions on June 10 and June 11, security forces apprehended two insurgent cadres. Leimapokpam Lemba Singh, 21, a member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba), was captured in the Bishnupur district. Additionally, authorities arrested 26-year-old Wahengbam Khumbongmayum Tombi Chanu, identified as an active cadre of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front or People’s Liberation Army, at her residence in Imphal West.

To maintain order, officials have intensified search operations and established 115 checkpoints throughout the hill and valley districts. Security forces are currently providing escorts along sensitive routes to ensure the safe passage of vehicles carrying essential goods.
