Imphal: Manipur Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has condemned the recent killing of civilians in Kangpokpi district, describing the hostage-taking and subsequent deaths as an act of terrorism. Speaking to reporters on June 12 after meeting with displaced residents and families from Konsakhul village, Akoijam characterized the incident as one of the most brutal acts witnessed since ethnic violence began in Manipur last year.

Akoijam highlighted that the incident was particularly distressing because victims were held hostage before being killed. During his visit, he stated, "Taking hostages and then killing them in cold blood is completely unacceptable." He noted that while the state has seen ongoing unrest, this specific act of violence against civilians represents a severe escalation that demands justice and accountability.

Despite the tragedy, the MP praised the successful release of 14 other hostages, citing the event as a testament to the compassion and moral values still present within the region. He urged all community members to speak out against such crimes, regardless of their background.

Addressing the broader state of the conflict, Akoijam rejected claims that Manipur is returning to normalcy. He argued that the persistent violence proves the situation has gone too far and criticized the government for failing to adequately protect its citizens. The MP promised to pursue legal avenues to ensure those responsible for the killings are held accountable for their actions.
