Imphal: Saikul MLA Kimneo Hangshing has condemned the fatal shooting of two church leaders in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, describing the event as a brutal escalation of violence in the state. Armed militants allegedly killed 34-year-old Letminlun Haokip and 36-year-old Lunminthang Haokip during the early hours of the morning at Kultuh village.

The victims were prominent figures within the local religious community. Letminlun Haokip served as the Gambih Secretary and Head Deacon of the Kultuh Baptist Church, while Lunminthang Haokip held roles as the Gambih Youth Secretary and the church’s Youth Chairman. Their deaths have sparked widespread outrage and intensified fears regarding civilian safety in the region’s hill areas.

In a formal statement, Hangshing characterized the killings as an assault on communal harmony and faith. She stated, "The incident a senseless act of violence against innocent civilians and said such actions have no place in a civilised society." The MLA emphasized that the attack undermines ongoing efforts to foster peace and coexistence among local populations.

Hangshing is now calling on state authorities to launch a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. She also advocated for improved security measures to protect vulnerable residents. As community organizations join the call for decisive action, the MLA has urged the public to reject violence and remain committed to the protection of human life.
