Imphal: Manipur authorities kicked off a special enrolment drive in Kakching district on Friday. The state aims to get displaced families into social welfare programs. Organizers held the event at Wangoo Tera High School.
District social welfare, child protection, and child development units ran the operation. They targeted people living in the relief camp and others nearby. Officials signed people up for old age, widow, and disability pensions. They also processed unemployment allowances and sponsorship under Mission Vatsalya. The team noted, "The initiative covered IDPs staying at the Wangoo Tera High School relief camp as well as eligible non-camp beneficiaries."
The push continues this weekend. Crews will work from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at KBM English School on July 6. The final stop is the Tangjeng Khunjao Community Hall relief camp on July 7.
Roughly 60,000 people now live in camps across the state. About 18,000 of them are registered voters. The Election Commission allows these residents to keep their native constituency status while voting from camp locations. Officials appointed special registration officers to verify details and help voters get ready.
