Imphal: The Native Peoples' Committee, Manipur (NPCM) is calling for an independent investigation into the abduction and deaths of six Naga civilians. The victims, identified as Kenpibou, Phenrongwi Thiumai, Rev. Dr. Manu Thiumai, Dilip Thiumai, Kaliwangbou Abonmai, and Ch. Phenrilung, were all from Konsakhul village in the Kangpokpi district.
The NPCM condemned the killings as a severe human rights violation, alleging the victims suffered torture before they died. The group noted that the deceased included pastors and church leaders, and extended their condolences to the affected families and the broader Naga community.
The organization raised serious questions regarding how authorities managed the hostage situation. They requested a transparent explanation from government and security agencies about the timeline of events, particularly regarding the release of 14 Kuki hostages compared to the deaths of the six Naga men. The committee is demanding a time-bound, impartial probe to identify those responsible, stating, "The organisation further sought a thorough inquiry into the actions of all local actors allegedly connected to the custody, movement or concealment of the hostages."
Beyond seeking justice for the victims, the NPCM wants investigators to examine whether any individuals or agencies had prior information about the hostages' whereabouts. The group continues to press for accountability and a clear account of the actions taken by local actors throughout the crisis.
