Kohima: Akehda Amulung kicked off a beekeeping training program at Shishimi Village in the Kiphire district on September 26. The North Eastern Council funded the event. Irothe T. Sangtam, CEO of Akehda Amulung, moderated the session. The pastor of SVBL opened with an invocation. Shishimi's Village Council chairman welcomed the guests and marked the occasion as a historic first for the community.
Longtili C. Sangtam, the founder of Akehda Amulung, addressed the villagers. He thanked the local Church, self-help groups, and residents for their commitment to improving their livelihoods. "Beekeeping has the potential to contribute to the local economy," he said. He promised that his organization would provide ongoing marketing support for honey products. He highlighted the project as a move toward self-reliance.
The head GB of Shishimi Village noted the community already maintains a reputation for traditional basket making. Zukhathong N led the technical briefing. He covered hive management, honey production, and bee colony care. The group finished the day with a practical demonstration to show participants how to handle hives. The training aims to boost income for the village through sustainable practices.
