Imphal: Church leaders in Kangpokpi district rallied Monday to demand justice for three pastors murdered in a May 13 ambush. Members of the Kuki-Zo Christian Forum held a prayer service before marching to National Highway 2 to stage a sit-in. They handed a formal demand to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh as he traveled through the area.
Rev. V. Sitlhou, Pastor Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou died in the attack. The forum claims 14 people are dead and 14 villages have been incinerated since the violence ignited three months ago. KZCF chairman Rev. Dr. S. Chongloi demanded swift action from state officials. "The Church has consistently prayed for peace and restraint despite immense suffering. Justice for our slain pastors and innocent civilians cannot be delayed any longer," he said.
The group also pushed for an immediate end to the economic blockade strangling the region. Restrictions on fuel, medicine, and food have pushed local residents to the brink. They asked the Chief Minister to bring these issues before the Union government to restore basic services.
Yumnam Khemchand Singh met the group and urged religious leaders to preach reconciliation to the youth. He promised that the state would uphold the law and deliver justice without bias. The rally ended with prayers for a return to stability in Manipur.
