Imphal: Kakching District Superintendent of Police Priyadarshini Laishram participated in a tree planting and adoption programme at the Kakching Makha High School Ground this Saturday. During the event, she planted a Uningthou sapling, which is the state tree of Manipur.
Surjit Kshetrimayum, a local social and environmental activist and secretary of the organization ADAM, will manage the care of the tree planted by the Superintendent. In return, Kshetrimayum presented a sapling to Laishram to encourage her personal participation in the ongoing tree adoption initiative.
Laishram pledged that the Kakching District Police would offer full support to the ADAM campaign, titled U-wa Tharasi, U-wa Hinghallasi. She said, "I call upon people from all walks of life to contribute towards addressing environmental challenges and promoting ecological conservation."
The event also focused on the long-term survival of local greenery. Workers installed protective fencing around trees planted at the site on June 8 to ensure they remain safe and healthy. This phase of the project began early Saturday morning.
Several community figures attended the program, including retired Horticulture Department official Ksh. Nabakishwar, school headmaster Naorem Robi, and local activist Pukhrambam Inaosana. Organizers also presented a promotional T-shirt to a school cook who assisted with the planting effort.
