Shillong: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) is demanding tighter security across the Jaintia Hills after the murder of Kyrshan Lamurong. The group says the killing exposes dangerous gaps in local safety and calls for immediate action. Unverified outsiders currently roam villages without any scrutiny. This must stop now.

The JNC wants village headmen and local leaders to track everyone living or working in their areas. They are launching verification drives to log the identities and jobs of non-tribal residents. The group says these measures are vital to keep communities safe.

In a statement, the council said the case serves as a "serious warning over public safety and calling for greater vigilance against unregulated residency in villages across the region." They expect village institutions and youth groups to monitor entry points and report anything suspicious to both JNC units and the police.

Authorities must run a fast and honest investigation into the Lamurong case. The JNC warns that they will step up their response if local monitoring stays lax. They plan to watch the police investigation closely until justice is served.
