Gangtok: Indian Army personnel conducted an emergency rescue operation on Friday, May 15, after a landslide obstructed the Nathu La-Thegu route in Sikkim. The incident left numerous tourists stranded for approximately six hours while they were returning from visits to the Nathu La border pass and the Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple.

The rescue mission took place under difficult circumstances, characterized by sub-zero temperatures, slippery road conditions, and persistent adverse weather across the high-altitude terrain. Despite these challenges, soldiers deployed immediately to reach the affected individuals.

Throughout the operation, the Army provided essential aid to the stranded travelers, including medical support, warm meals, refreshments, and water. Concurrently, troops worked to clear debris from the road, successfully restoring limited access. This coordination ensured the safe evacuation of all tourists and the eventual resumption of vehicle movement in the region.
