Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya issued a firm deadline on Monday. The National Highways Authority of India has one week to file a status report on the NH-6 road project. This follows a long-running public interest litigation.
Trouble mounts for the NHAI. Counsel for the authority confirmed that the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested former PIU-Shillong official Anand Singh Chauhan on July 1, 2026. Chauhan faces pending contempt proceedings regarding the highway work.
He is currently in custody. The NHAI counsel noted that "he had earlier been transferred to PIU-Hanuman Ghat and will appear before the court after his release." The court scheduled the next hearing for July 13, 2026.
