Heirok residents clash with Commandos during attempted arrest

Imphal: A Commando team fled Heirok Part-II Champra Thong Maning Leirak last night after a local mob blocked an arrest. The trouble began at 8 pm. Security forces arrived in two police Gypsys and one civilian car to grab a local resident. Residents swarmed the team immediately.

The crowd fought back. They successfully pried the detainee from police control. The outnumbered officers beat a hasty retreat as tensions boiled over in the Thoubal district. Local anger did not stop when the police vanished. The mob turned their sights on an abandoned Alto car, registration number MN05D 4544, parked nearby. They suspected the vehicle belonged to the police team. They set it on fire.

Locals labeled the car's presence as "suspicious" before flames engulfed the frame. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle was left as a gutted wreck. Police have yet to comment on the failed operation or the damaged property.
