Guwahati College Students Join Push for Eye Donation

Guwahati: Roughly 200 students, teachers, and volunteers packed into Hari Gayatri Das College in Azara, Guwahati. They gathered for an eye donation awareness meeting during the 41st National Eye Donation Fortnight. Organizers included the Saksham North Assam Branch, the college National Service Scheme unit, and Sankardev Netralaya.

Dr. Arup Jyoti Kalita told the crowd that eye donation saves lives. He pushed students to commit to the cause and talk it over with their families. Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati followed up with a specific charge. He told the students to become "Eye Donation Ambassadors" and ensure families contact an eye bank immediately after a donor dies.

Tridib Sarma from Sankardev Netralaya walked the group through the technical side of the process. He showed a presentation detailing corneal transplants, eye bank logistics, and local services in Assam. He kept the pressure on the students to pledge their own eyes before leaving the room.

Professor Babita Sarma presided over the session. Dr. Swapna Sarma, the college NSS program officer, closed the event with a vote of thanks. The organizers viewed the turnout as a win for their mission to restore sight across the region.
