Government agencies push for better public outreach in Meghalaya

Shillong: Government departments and media units met in Shillong this week to sharpen their public outreach strategies. The Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee gathered agencies ranging from the India Meteorological Department to NIFT Shillong. They want better coordination to get the word out on government schemes and services. The goal is simple: reach more people.

Akashvani Shillong hosted the session to discuss how departments can work together to fix communication gaps. Representatives noted significant trouble reaching citizens in remote, rural areas. Officials said they must improve their flow of information to help those living outside major hubs. "Coordinated communication in enhancing public awareness of government programmes" remains the top priority for the committee.

Various agencies detailed their upcoming work. The Census Department spoke on preparations for the next count. Doordarshan Kendra officials highlighted their digital expansion and the Creators Corner project. Meanwhile, the IMD urged better social media use for weather alerts. The Telecom Department pushed the Sanchar Saathi platform to improve safety. NECTAR and the Soil and Water Conservation department also laid out plans to promote sustainable development and farmer support through stronger messaging.
