Kohima: Government High School Tseminyu New Town cleared the desks on September 12. Students from pre-primary through Class 10 traded textbooks for hands-on work. The event aimed to boost teamwork, practical learning, and healthy living.
Headmaster Chegeseng Kath noted the event pushed students outside the conventional classroom. Younger pupils spent the day doing paper craft. This helped them build imagination and fine motor skills. Meanwhile, Classes 7 and 8 cleaned the campus and the Floralscape. Kath said this work helped instill a sense of responsibility and discipline in the youth.
Class 10 students hit the field for mark-based games. The matches focused on sportsmanship and team effort. Class 9 students handled food under the theme From Farm to Plate: Making a Healthy Salad. Teachers walked them through kitchen safety, proper knife handling, and hygiene standards. Students donned aprons, hair nets, and gloves to prepare their meals. Kath explained the goal: "The activity was designed to provide students with practical knowledge about healthy food choices, hygiene, food preparation, kitchen safety and the importance of proper presentation." Everyone shared the finished salads once the work ended.
