Four Die Following Toxic Gas Exposure in Assam Water Tank

Guwahati: Four men died Friday after inhaling lethal fumes inside an underground water tank in the Jaynagar area of Silchar. The tragedy hit an under-construction building in the Kumarpara neighborhood of Assam’s Cachar district. One worker climbed into the tank to clean it and immediately lost consciousness. Three others followed him down in a desperate bid to help. All four collapsed inside the confined space.

The victims were identified as Niloy Pal, Debashish Pal, Nandan Pal, and Sampu Pal. Four other individuals suffered during the subsequent rescue effort. Medical staff admitted them to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Doctors report their condition remains critical. Police confirmed the gravity of the scene, stating, "Four people, including three workers, lost their lives after allegedly inhaling toxic gases inside an underground water tank."

Personnel from the Cachar Police, the State Disaster Response Force, and the National Disaster Response Force arrived to secure the site. Authorities have detained the owner of the construction project. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal exposure.
