Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Okram Ibobi Singh turned up the heat on the state and federal government this weekend. He tore into the BJP for failing to expand the Manipur Cabinet. The state government remains understaffed after five months. Only two deputy chief ministers and one cabinet minister currently hold office. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh manages over 20 departments on his own. It is a administrative bottleneck.
Ibobi questioned the effectiveness of such a thin leadership structure during a press conference at Congress Bhawan in Imphal. "How can a government function effectively in such a manner? What can the people expect from this government?" he asked. He singled out the lack of a dedicated Education Minister, noting that the sector remains neglected while the Chief Minister struggles to juggle his massive workload.
The criticism shifted to the national stage as Ibobi attacked the NDA government for a string of examination paper leaks. Citing data from Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, he claimed 152 paper leaks occurred since 2014, including the NEET exam. He blamed these irregularities for the deaths of 22 students by suicide. The MPCC president demanded the Union Education Minister resign on moral grounds.
Ibobi also addressed the recent recovery of six Naga civilians on June 10. He demanded swift action against those responsible for the killings. "The victim families are waiting and crying for justice. I hope those responsible will be brought to justice and the affected families will get the justice they deserve," he said. He finished by telling voters that building a new Manipur requires defeating the current leadership.
