Former Justice Siddharth Mridul Joins Supreme Court Bar Association Presidential Race

Imphal: Siddharth Mridul filed his nomination for Supreme Court Bar Association president on August 6. He arrived with supporters to submit his paperwork before the August 18 polls. Mridul brings a lengthy judicial record to the race. He served as a Delhi High Court judge starting in May 2009. Later, he took the oath as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court on October 20, 2023, and held that post until November 21, 2024.

Mridul returned to legal practice as a senior advocate in the Supreme Court following his retirement. He faces competition from senior advocate Anupam Lal Das. Das officially entered the contest by filing his nomination papers. Senior advocates Shekhar Naphade and Ratnakar Dash proposed his candidacy.

The election atmosphere remains charged. The Supreme Court Bar Association elections are scheduled to be held on August 18.
