Guwahati: Tension boiled over in Assam during the Durga Puja holidays. Locals in No. 1 Hatikhuwa, Lumding, accused a group of men posing as Hindu ascetics of drugging and robbing a woman named Kunki Devi. The suspects allegedly fed her an intoxicating substance to knock her out before stealing her cash. Bajrang Dal members intercepted the group and dragged them to the police station. The exact details of the heist remain under investigation.

Separately, the Railway Protection Force snagged three Bangladeshi nationals at the Lumding Railway Junction. Bilal Hussain, Amir Ali, and Hasan Mia were caught riding the Guwahati-Sairang Express, train number 15609. These men claim they hail from the Sunamganj district. They told authorities they slipped across the border in West Bengal three months ago. A tout allegedly took their money to get them inside the country. The trio admitted they paid Rs 15,000 for the assist. After the border crossing, the group traveled to Uttar Pradesh to work as laborers before their luck ran out in Assam. Local officials are now questioning the role of human smugglers in the region.

Authorities are keeping a tight lid on the proceedings. An official from the RPF has yet to comment on the matter. "The allegations remain unverified, and the accused have not been established to be guilty," police noted regarding the robbery claims. Investigators are still sorting through the conflicting reports as they process the detainees.
