Protesters demand justice in Lumding after teenager's death

Guwahati: Lumding residents swarmed the local police station to demand answers. They want a fair probe into the death of 19-year-old Saptami Debnath. The crowd raised slogans, calling for strict punishment against those responsible. Some protestors went further. They demanded the death penalty for Rohit Das, the man accused in the case.

Police caught Das on Friday in Shillong, Meghalaya. They moved him to judicial custody shortly after his arrest. The case now sits with investigators. Local authorities face intense pressure to clear up the circumstances surrounding the teenager's death. Officials stated, "Any determination of guilt and subsequent punishment will be governed by the judicial process and applicable law."

The incident has hit the Hojai district hard. People continue to gather, seeking accountability as the police investigation moves forward. Every fact remains subject to the ongoing official inquiry.
