Fire Breaks Out at Nagaland House in New Delhi

Kohima: A fire ripped through Nagaland House on Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road early Monday morning. An electrical short in a room air conditioner triggered the blaze. The building, which has hosted Nagas for over fifty years, sits near the Prime Minister's residence.

Staff acted fast. They grabbed extinguishers and climbed to the roof to douse the flames through back windows while waiting for help. Delhi Fire Service crews arrived soon after to finish the job. Abu Metha, Adviser to the Chief Minister, confirmed the situation is under control. Metha was in the room next door when the fire started and described himself as "perhaps the very last to escape."

Joint Resident Commissioner Sharon Longchari managed the emergency response. No injuries occurred during the incident. Officials are now checking the building for structural damage. The property has served as a hub for state business, church services, and student gatherings since its 1973 opening.
