Guwahati: Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah named the state's human resource base as its primary engine for industrial expansion on September 24. He spoke at the 13th SBI Banking and Economics Conclave in Mumbai. Baruah argued this workforce makes the state a top choice for outside capital.
The state seeks to move past its traditional reliance on oil and tea. It wants new industries now. Baruah highlighted a shift toward semiconductor manufacturing and a rising startup ecosystem. He pointed to business-friendly reforms and single-window clearances as evidence of this change.
Baruah turned to social media to explain the state's new direction. "For decades, the obvious answers were tea and oil. Today, Assam's strength lies in diversifying beyond these traditional sectors without compromising them, backed by a very credible and capable human resource base," he wrote on X.
The minister confirmed that fostering enterprise remains the core goal of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The government aims to build an environment that welcomes investors. Baruah remains in Mumbai to meet with banking and business stakeholders at the ongoing conclave.
