Kohima: Eden Academy students marched through Mokokchung on Friday to celebrate Senior Cultural Day and the upcoming Tsüngremmung Festival. They teamed up with academy staff and guest of honor Moses Newmai, the District Cultural Officer, for a traditional vine pulling procession known as Arr Yimdong Sü.

The group started at Jubilee Memorial College in Aongza. They walked the route to Eden Academy in Kumlong. The event drew parents of Grade 10 students and representatives from the Mokokchung District Art and Culture Council. It was a loud, visual display of Ao community heritage meant to prepare the village for the incoming festival.

Newmai spoke to the crowd about the history behind the march. He explained that the procession once served to banish evil spirits and sickness. Today, it stands for unity and hard work. He pushed the students to hold onto their history as they move through modern life. "We celebrate because our culture is our root. A tree without strong roots cannot stand. No matter how far we go, we must remain anchored in our rich traditions and history," Newmai told the audience.

He praised the school for keeping these traditions alive. The program finished with performances showcasing Ao customs. The goal remains the same: keeping the community anchored and honest.
