The union rejects the idea that their homeland is a commodity. They claim certain Kuki settler groups ignored local agreements and challenged traditional authority. Past hospitality toward settlers does not equal land ownership. The union warned that their patience should not be seen as weakness. Recent violence and property damage at Maova highlight the danger of ignoring established custom.
Authorities must step in now. The union urged the state government to uphold customary law in both letter and spirit. They want immediate action to prevent further escalation.
