Imphal: Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho officially launched a fleet of new vehicles today to boost solid waste management operations in the Senapati district. As the minister overseeing the Public Health Engineering Department and the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Dikho flagged off six tippers and two dumpers at the Autonomous District Council headquarters.
These vehicles were purchased using grants from the 4th State Finance Commission. The new equipment will support waste collection efforts across several key regions, including the Senapati-Karong area, Tadubi, Makhre Padei, Mao-Inu Choro, and the model villages of Purul and Oinam.
The district is currently expanding its infrastructure through initiatives funded by the 15th Finance Commission, which has allocated a total of Rs 2.90 crore for waste management projects. Current developments include the construction of collection and segregation centers at 13 different locations. Officials are also establishing a Material Recovery Facility at the Kathikho Karong Waste Management Site.
Beyond the new vehicle fleet, the council is working on installing plastic bottle banks and acquiring a JCB earthmover to support environmental maintenance. Discussing the ongoing efforts, officials noted that these projects represent a broader push to improve local hygiene, stating, "Several initiatives related to solid waste management are being implemented by the ADC, Senapati."
