Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated a new boarding facility at Pine Mount School in Shillong on Thursday. Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui joined him for the event. The new hostel aims to resolve long-standing complaints about poor living conditions. Sangma recalled his visit to the school in October 2022. During that trip, students told him about the poor state of their housing. He promised a fix. Today, he delivered on that commitment.
Sangma addressed the crowd of students, noting how fulfilling the promise brought him personal satisfaction. Education remains the government's top priority, he added. Officials are working to upgrade school infrastructure to help students succeed. True change takes persistence. Real progress requires consistent effort and dedication.
The Chief Minister also introduced the She Thrives initiative at the school. This program installs sanitary pad vending machines to improve health and hygiene on campus. It goes beyond simple access to supplies. "Ia ‘She Thrives’ program-ara chatrirangna sanitary pad-rangko on·na miksonganisan ong·ja indiba chatrirangni gisepo ka·donganiko aro dakchakaniko on·aniba ong·enga," Sangma said.
Sangma spoke with students about career paths and future opportunities. He clarified that the government cannot provide jobs for everyone. Instead, the state is rolling out policies to encourage entrepreneurship and private sector employment. He urged the students to study hard and stay focused on their goals.
