Guwahati: The Indian National Congress has formally appointed Wazed Ali Choudhury as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the Assam Legislative Assembly. Dr. Joy Prakash Das will serve as his deputy. The All India Congress Committee announced these selections on May 26 following approval from the party high command.
These appointments follow a period of internal deliberation regarding the leadership structure during the current session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly. Gaurav Gogoi, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, previously indicated that central party observers and local legislators would determine the final outcome. Congress members held several meetings in Guwahati leading up to the announcement as interest grew regarding the future of the party's legislative strategy.
The new leadership team is expected to play a vital role in coordinating the party's efforts inside the Assembly. This includes managing the formal selection process for the Leader of the Opposition.
