Shillong: The central government cleared Rs 336.62 crore for Meghalaya under the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. This funding covers the 2026-27 financial year. It gives the state's rural water infrastructure a major shot in the arm.
Public Health Engineering Minister Marcuise Marak announced the news on Tuesday. He secured the cash after a sit-down with Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil in New Delhi. Money matters now. The grant provides enough capital to clear at least one-third of the pending bills for contractors working on these drinking water projects.
Marak confirmed the funds will move current water supply work along faster. "The release of funds would help expedite ongoing water supply projects and improve the pace of implementation under the flagship programme."
The state expects more cash soon. Officials plan to release subsequent instalments in due course to keep the mission running without further delays.
