Kohima: The federal government needs another two weeks to weigh in on legislative authority for the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory. Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton announced this timeline Saturday at Dimapur airport. He recently returned from Delhi where Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and a team of cabinet ministers met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and top federal officials.
Patton confirmed the state already finalized its stance on the proposal. He noted that only specific departments will transition to the new body. "Whatever was discussed and finalized by the state government has already been shared with our Union Home Minister and his officials regarding granting legislative powers to FNT," Patton said. He added that federal officials asked the state to wait for the final word.
The state government is offloading the investigation into the July 13 IED blast at Chümoukedima 'A' to the National Investigation Agency. One Assam Rifles soldier died in the attack and four others suffered injuries. Patton admitted local authorities lacked the necessary technical infrastructure to handle the case alone.
Cabinet members have not yet reviewed the Chakhroma Public Organisation protest regarding the Maova village dispute because officials were out of station. The government plans to discuss the matter in Kohima soon. Regarding oil exploration, Patton stated the state will consult with civil society groups before releasing any documents or bringing the topic before the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
