Gangtok: Sikkim BJP leader Tseten Tashi Bhutia has issued a formal statement titled Golden Jubilee, Silent Questions: Sikkim Demands Accountability, urging the state government to address several unresolved political and administrative concerns. While acknowledging the significance of the statehood anniversary celebrations and expressing appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit, Bhutia argued that ceremonial events must not overshadow the necessity for sustained policy negotiations.

Bhutia emphasized that while the central government remains committed to Sikkim, the state administration under Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has failed to consistently represent the aspirations of its people. He urged the state to publish a comprehensive White Paper documenting the progress of the state from 1975 to 2026 to ensure transparency regarding the region's development.

The statement highlighted critical constitutional and legislative priorities, including the implementation of safeguards under Article 371F and the restoration of reserved assembly seats for Nepali of Sikkimese origin and the Tsong community. Furthermore, Bhutia called for an increase in Bhutia Lepcha assembly seats should the total strength of the legislature expand beyond its current count of 32 members.

Addressing socioeconomic and security concerns, the BJP leader demanded a detailed report on the 2023 Glacial Lake Outburst Flood, specifically requesting transparency on compensation and restoration efforts. He also raised alarms regarding the alleged illegal acquisition of Certificates of Identification, noting the potential risks to demographic balance and national security. Additionally, Bhutia sought updates on the protection of old settlers' rights and clarity on the status of resolutions previously adopted during an all-party meeting concerning the preservation of Sikkimese identity.
