Kohima: The Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha and the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha of Nagaland met in Dimapur on July 3. They gathered at the Rotary Club in Midland to honor the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. BJMM general secretary Phomisonla Chang chaired the event.
BJYM general secretary Likao Odyuo detailed the life of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder. He spoke on Mukherjee’s history as an educationist and a nationalist leader. Odyuo pointed to Mukherjee’s fight for national unity and his vocal stance against the Jammu and Kashmir permit system.
The leader spent 43 days in custody before he died in 1953. Odyuo noted that this, "episode that continues to be debated in India's political history." Students from Cornerstone College watched the presentation alongside local party leadership, including BJMM president Tsachola Rothrong and BJYM president V Khekato Awomi.
The event closed with a vote of thanks from Rothrong. Everyone stood for the national anthem before grabbing refreshments.
