Guwahati: Devotees and leaders gathered at Batadrava Than on Janmashtami to demand the immediate restoration of the local police station. The site marks the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva. Locals fear for their safety. Participants included residents from Salaguri and Narowa Satras alongside office-bearers like Namgowa, Gayon-Bayon, Sutradhar, Palideuri, Hatimota, and Muktiyar.
The group claims administrative changes hit the constituency, development block, Zilla Parishad, and Satra Gaon Panchayat hard. They argue the police station is vital for keeping order at the religious site. Without a station, the area feels vulnerable. The protesters warned they will take their agitation to the streets if Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ignores their request.
The crowd chanted slogans during the holiday. They appealed to the Chief Minister to "restore our existence" while citing the urgent need for protection of the local population.
